Port Canaveral parking small guide

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is 45 miles west of Port Canaveral cruise port. Take the North exit from the airport. It is a direct and easy drive along SR 528 and SR 410. Tolls will apply and the journey takes about 45 minutes. Once in the port, follow signs to the Cargo Piers and Cruise Parking Lots. Melbourne International Airport (MLB) is 25 miles south of Port Canaveral. Travel north on US-1 then east on SR 528 for 10 miles, crossing the Indian River, Merritt Island and the Banana River to reach the cruise terminals at Port Canaveral. Sanford International Airport (SFB) is 60 miles northwest of Port Canaveral. Exit south from the airport on the Central Florida Greenway (toll road 417) and travel south before joining the SR 528 east to Canaveral Cruise Port.

Unlike movie theaters, there are many cruise lines that will let your bring your own drinks (mostly non-alcoholic) onto the ship right in your luggage. No sneaking required! Yes, you may be more concerned about your alcoholic beverages, but you may not realize how much sodas and water cost on a cruise line, too. Save by supplementing your drinks on-board with fizzy pop and bottled water brought from home. Some cruise lines will even let you bring on a bottle of wine or champagne with your luggage – just not hard liquor. Extra details about Port Canaveral cruise parking.

You can’t avoid fueling up a time or two on the drive to your cruise, but you can save some money at the pump. First, plan your trip to avoid high gas prices; prices typically peak at the beginning of summer, around holidays like Independence Day and even on weekends, so avoid driving at these times and spend less at the pump. Second, you should map your route to avoid construction and congestion, and time your trip to reach the port before the other passengers so you don’t spend lots of time idling. Once you’ve mapped your trip, then you can use a website like gasbuddy.com to find the least expensive gas on your route; you can also gas up at warehouse clubs like Costco, BJ’s and Sam’s where gas is often cheaper. Finally, pay attention to what your GPS tells you; many mapping apps will alert you to congested routes, so pay attention to route changes and recommendations.

If you are traveling on the Disney Cruise Line, you’ll have some specific transportation options offered to you. These are available at an additional fee, but I find them to be so convenient. We always take the shuttle. There are two options – one leaving Orlando International Airport, and one leaving from the Walt Disney World resort hotels. You’ll want to add these on your trip itinerary when you book, or later through DCL or the travel agent you booked with. There are other options as well, including shuttles, private cars, Uber/Lyft, and cabs. Port Canaveral parking is also available. It’s currently $17 per day, and you’ll park near the your specific cruise terminal. If you are hoping to get a rental car so you can continue to explore the area after your cruise, there are several options available. As always, I recommend booking in advance to make sure there is a car available when you need it.
